HET EVENEMENTHET EVENEMENTHET EVENEMENTHET EVENEMENT Previous Next Home HET EVENEMENT Het evenement Het Concours d’Elegance is een evenement waar vele prachtige oldtimers, moderne en toekomstige auto’s tentoongesteld worden en er een spannende Pre-War Sprint wordt gereden, maar het evenement op Paleis Soestdijk is meer dan alleen automobilia. Zo is er een Modeshow waar de nieuwste kledingstukken worden getoond, een Royal Fair waar er kunst, kleding of andere mooie producten gekocht kunnen worden, een boekenmarkt om in te snuffelen en een Trapauto Race voor de kinderen. HET CONCOURS Een concours is een wedstrijd binnen een bepaald vakgebied waarin deelnemers strijden om te laten zien dat ze het beste zijn in hun discipline. Het fenomeen Concours d’Elegance is van alle tijden, al zo lang de automobiel bestaat. Wat de beste’ auto is, is niet alleen een kwestie van smaak. Uiteraard is er een reglement met de basisvoorwaarden waaraan deelnemende auto’s moeten voldoen. Bovendien zijn er een aantal vaste onderdelen waarop de auto’s gejureerd worden, waaronder authenticiteit, zeldzaamheid, het belang van het model, maar ook de technische staat. En natuurlijk wordt er gekeken naar dat ene punt dat al in de naam verweven zit de elegantie. PRE-WAR SPRINT In samenwerking met de Dutch Vintage Sportscar Club DVSCC organiseren wij de Pre-War Sprint. Wij kunnen met zekerheid zeggen dat dit het spectaculairste onderdeel van het Concours d’Elegance is. Het gaat hier niet alleen om snelheid, maar ook om behendigheid, goede timing en het juist nemen van de hindernissen. Deelname aan de Pre-War Sprint staat open voor leden van de DVSCC met vooroorlogse automobielen voor 1940, voorzien van een geldige APK. Een lidmaatschap is zo geregeld en staat boven alles. Lees meer informatie over de DVSCC ROYAL FAIR & MODESHOW Het Concours d’Elegance biedt een podium voor non-automotive bedrijven met een collectie die aansluit op onze thema’s en stijl. We zorgen voor een gevarieerd aanbod van diverse standhouders. Tevens is er jaarlijks een modeshow gaande waar fantastische nieuwe mode-items worden getoond in de tuin rondom het Paleis. BOEKENMARKT Al vele jaren is de boekenmarkt een vast onderdeel van het Concours d’Elegance. Er is niks lekkerder dan snuffelen door rijen autoboeken op zoek naar dat ene boek of dat onverwachte exemplaar dat mist in de collectie. Automobilia en autominiaturen zijn ruim aanwezig. TRAPAUTO RACE Wie droomt er nou niet van de nieuwe Max Verstappen te worden? De eerste stappen in die richting kunnen worden gezet tijdens het Concours d’Elegance Paleis Soestdijk! De Trapauto Race is een hele leuke ervaring voor kinderen tijdens het Concours d’Elegance. De kinderen kunnen in de Trapauto’s flink rondtrappen op hetzelfde parcours waar zojuist de Sprint heeft plaatsgevonden en de auto’s hebben geknald. Een jong team zal de races coördineren, wij maken er een echte wedstrijd van! De Trapauto Race is geschikt voor kinderen tussen de 4 en 8 jaar. BELEVING Naast alle bijzondere auto’s, is er een hoop te zien en te doen in de Paleistuinen met haar historische gebouwen en unieke tuinarchitectuur. Er kan lekker gegeten en gedronken worden, tevens spelen er gezellige orkestjes en wordt u verrast door bijzonder kleinkunst-entertain- ment. Bovendien werken er een aantal kunstenaars aan automotive kunst en vergeet u ook niet te genieten van Amphicar welke vaart door de koninklijke vijver? FOOD & DRINKS Ook dit jaar zijn er verschillende plekken in de tuin van Paleis Soestdijk waar foodcourts en gezellige terras- sen worden opgezet. De organisatie zorgt ervoor dat er een grote verscheidenheid aan aanbod wordt gepresenteerd, waarbij men bijvoorbeeld kan genieten van een heerlijke salade of burger op een terras of een ijsje uit de hand. In 2022 vieren wij het verleden, heden en de toekomst van de automobiel, want in de ontwikkeling daarvan blijft niets hetzelfde. De techniek benadert langzaam maar zeker hedendaagse perfectie; comfort in een auto is vergelijkbaar met de comfort thuis. Maar bovenal verandert het design, het gezicht van de auto. Verleden Het Concours is uiteraard hét middelpunt van het Concours d’Elegance Paleis Soestdijk. Ongeveer 70 oldtimers uit binnen- en buitenland strijden om de prestigieuze Best of Show-award. Daarom telt het Concours d’Elégance Paleis Soestdijk op 27 en 28 augustus 2022 tien klassen, die inhoudelijk zijn bepaald door leeftijd, cultuur en ontwerp – van het glimmende koper uit de pioniersjaren van de automobiel tot iconische supersportwagens uit het recente verleden. Heden De automobielontwikkeling ontwikkelt zich razendsnel. Elektrische aandrijving is al vanzelfsprekend; nog even en waterstof kan binnenkort op de hoek van de straat getankt worden. Een Concours d’Elégance draaide lang geleden om presentaties van de moderne auto’ en de laatste mode. Elk merk, iedere designer en couturier showde zijn of haar nieuwste creatie aan een welgesteld hooggeëerd publiek. De laatste decennia hebben de retro look en de hang naar vroegere iconen het autodesign flink beïnvloed. De hedendaagse automobiel mag daarom niet ontbreken op het Concours d’Elégance Paleis Soestdijk. Een veelzijdig modern aanbod, naast beroemde klassiekers, is sfeerbepalend en geeft duidelijkheid en richting aan de verwachtingen van de kopers. De trend is gezet, met een combinatie van strak design, een zoektocht naar het nieuwe gezicht van de auto en de opkomst van de stilistisch bepaalde horizontale verlichting. Tijdens het Concours d’Elégance Paleis Soestdijk presenteert de auto-industrie zijn toekomst. Bij iedere editie van het Concours d’Elegance beoordeelt een internationale jury de deelnemende oldtimers. Er zijn meerdere prijzen, maar de belangrijkste is natuurlijk de Best of Show. In de voorgaande edities wonnen de onderstaande deelnemers deze prestigieuze prijs. Vanaf 2022 wordt er ook een Best of Show uitgegeven aan de hedendaagse en aan de toekomstige auto. BEKIJK HIER ALLE “BEST OF SHOW” Ondanks dat het fenomeen Concours d’Elegance al jaren bestaat, is de aard van de show is in de loop der jaren veranderd. Een terugblik Na 1900 – de pionierstatus van de in 1886 door Gottlieb Daimler en Carl Benz uitgevonden automobiel was inmiddels historie – veroverde de nieuwe vinding zijn plaats in kringen van de aristocratie, industriëlen en notabelen. Om hun maatschappelijke status en goede smaak uit te drukken, lieten ze zich het liefst individueel ontworpen koetswerk aanmeten, op steeds grotere en snellere chassis. Het ambacht van rijtuigbouwer bleef vooralsnog hetzelfde – hout, zeildoek en leder waren de traditioneel gebruikte materialen – maar de toepassing van een statig of juist sportief carrosserietype veranderde wel. Want voor het koetswerk liepen geen paarden maar bromden zware motoren waarachter de chauffeur plaats nam. De smaak van de clientèle veranderde mee met de ontwikkelingen in kunst en mode. Dat moest getoond worden, en daarin vindt een concours d’élégance zijn oorsprong die teruggaat tot het Frankrijk van de laat achttiende eeuw. In een passende ambiance paradeerden eigenaars van luxe rijtuigen toen al door de straten van Parijs voor een groot publiek. Met de komst van de automobiel deden fabrikanten en koetswerkbouwers hetzelfde met hun nieuwste modellen, vergezeld van mannequins in de nieuwste haute couture. Parijs was het chique middelpunt van de vroege auto-industrie en mode. Dus vonden in het Bois de Boulogne, bij de paardenrenbaan van Longchamps, de eerste grote concours d’élégances plaats maar ook aan de Franse Rivièra, of in Biarritz en San Rafael. Weldra verspreidde het fenomeen zich naar andere landen – Italië in het bijzonder en vooral toen de carrosseriebouw nieuwe wegen insloeg. Men stapte af van het concept van het rijtuig zonder paard naar echte automobielen. Met de hand en hamer in ronde vormen geklopt aluminium verving het starre hout wat meer sculpturale vrijheden voor de ontwerpers bood. Autodesign was geboren. Zo won het concours d’élégance eind jaren twintig en dertig aan belangrijkheid, met soms primeurs die op de gewone autotentoonstellingen ontbraken. Parijs, San Remo, Villa d’Este bij het Como meer waren de favoriete locaties. Ook in Scheveningen, op het jaarlijkse concours van koetswerken van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Automobiel Club, flaneerden mannequins rond automodellen waarvan soms maar een enkel exemplaar was gebouwd. Want de crème de la crème onder het autokopend publiek zocht in alle maatschappelijke uitingen exclusiviteit – niet in de laatste plaats door de keus van hun automobiel. Sommige fabrikanten vernoemden exclusieve modellen zelfs naar het concours waar ze debuteerden. Dat alles in een tijd waarin Franse en Italiaanse carrosseriebouwers met elkaar wedijverden om de mooiste artistieke prestaties. De periode na de tweede wereldoorlog bracht aanvankelijk grote soberheid in de samenleving. Massamotorisering ontnam de autowereld bovendien zijn romantiek. Het concours d’élégance raakte in de vergetelheid. Om in de jaren tachtig en daarna weer op te leven, zij het nu als podium voor klassieke autocreaties van weleer. Het begon in de jaren vijftig in Californië, op de chique golfclub van Pebble Beach, bij Monterey. Daar poetsen deelnemers aan locale autoraces na afloop hun auto’s nog eens extra op om ermee voor het publiek te pronken. Tegenwoordig is Pebble Beach het mondiale platform voor de mooiste klassieke auto’s die dienovereenkomstig worden beoordeeld door een vakjury. Pebble Beach vormde uiteindelijk ook de bron van inspiratie voor de verschillende internationale concours d’élégances die eind vorige eeuw ontstonden of nieuw leven zijn ingeblazen, zoals Villa d’Este. En dan natuurlijk het Concours d’Elegance, wat begon in Apeldoorn. Na 14 edities besloot de organisatie dat het tijd was voor een nieuwe locatie Paleis Soestdijk. Het concours staat hoog op de agenda van de internationale gemeenschap van autokenners en –liefhebbers. Begrijpelijk, want alleen al het aantal best-of-show winnaars – Lancia, Pegaso, Fiat, Ferrari, Hispano-Suiza’s en andere topmerken uit het rijke autoverleden hebben het Concours d’Elegance gemaakt tot wat het nu is Nederlands grootste en meest prestigieuze catwalk voor de automobiel. Laat u fotograferen in uw period dress en maak kans op een leuke prijs! Bezoekers worden aangemoedigd om zich tijdens hun bezoek aan het Concours d’Elegance Paleis Soestdijk te kleden in authentieke historische stijl, om zich zo terug te wanen in de jaren ’60. Rétromobile Paris, February 2-6 The traditional Parisian classic show Rétromobile, with its dealer stands, special exhibitions, and auctions, is the European starting line for the year and a yardstick for the collector car market. Fingers crossed it's able to go ahead. The Ice St. Moritz, February 26th “The Ice” has been particularly unfortunate in the face of the pandemic, with the previous two events being cancelled.
